Elandslaagte is located about 75km north of Kimberley in the Republic of South Africa. The property encompasses the intersection of two major structures, where a northeast-southwest fault structure acts as the primary control on the emplacement of a younger kimberlitic intrusion.
There are three kimberlite blows on the property namely Leicester, Russel, and Balmoral. Leicester and Russel lie on the northeast to southwest fault structure and Balmoral appears to be a separate emplacement episode. Diamonds were first discovered here in 1892 and the property was mined intermittently from 1896 to 1992.
There is an existing infrastructure including roads, electricity and water. A significant portion of pit and mining development has also been completed.
